Trees can be incredibly beautiful and majestic. Some homeowners have so much respect for trees that they feel bad about having a tree removed unless it is diseased and dying. However, disease and death are not the only valid reasons to have a tree removed from your property. If any of the following are true, you should not feel guilty for calling a tree care company and arranging to have the tree removed from your land.
The tree is making a mess.
Some trees are really messy. Crabapple trees, for example, drop their crabapples all over the ground in the fall, and this can attract unwanted wildlife and ants. Sweetgum trees can drop sappy flowers all over your yard, creating sticky spots and stains. The previous homeowner may have been okay with the mess made by a certain tree, but if it is driving you crazy, you can absolutely have the tree removed. If you want, you can have the tree company plant a less-messy tree in its place.
The tree requires too much maintenance.
When a tree is planted in an area where it would not naturally grow, it can become demanding. You may need to water it, fertilize it regularly, and get it trimmed several times per year to maintain its shape. If this maintenance is starting to feel like too much, then consider simply having the tree removed. Planting a native tree in its place is a good idea. Native trees generally require minimal care ā just occasional pruning and some water when it's been overly dried out.
The tree is interfering with one of your buildings.
Is the tree overhanging your garage and causing the roof to grow moss or algae? Perhaps the tree is growing into a fence or protruding into a playground you built. Trees are replaceable. You can plant a tree in a less problematic place. Don't feel bad about having it removed in order to preserve the structure you spent time or money on. Removing a tree generally costs a lot less than replacing a mossy roof.
Tree care companies are generally happy to remove a tree for any reason at all. If you are tired of a certain tree for any reason, give them a call. Trees are important for the environment, but you can always plant a new one in a better spot. With a new tree, you have more control over maintenance demands, too.
