2 Tips to Give Your Young Trees a Good Start This Spring

If you have young trees in your yard, there are things you can do to help give them a good start this spring. This will help the young trees grow into much larger trees and be healthy and strong. Keep reading for two tree care tips.

Hire a Tree Trimming Service

There are many trees that can be trimmed during the spring. Trees trimmed in the spring, however, cannot be trimmed as much as they can during the late fall. If you have trees that bud flowers, you need to have them trimmed while they are dormant, which means before the first buds start to appear.

A tree trimming service will know if they should trim your trees. If so, they will first start out by removing all dead branches. This not only makes the trees look better but can also help prevent fungus and other pests. Once this is done, they will trim the rest of the tree. In most cases, only about 10 percent of a tree will be trimmed.

One benefit of hiring a tree trimming service is they will inspect trees for problems. For example, they may see a small fungus growing or pests that can damage trees. This way you can take care of these problems before they become much worse and damage or even kill your trees.

Fertilize and Mulch

Fertilizing trees in the spring months is beneficial, as this helps make them strong and grow well during the spring. You can test your soil to see if it is lacking nutrients. There are soil test kits available at garden centers. You can then add the proper nutrients to make the soil much healthier for your trees.

Purchase fertilizer at a garden center. Tell the employee what type of trees you have, and they can help you choose the best fertilizer. Slow-release fertilizer is a good option. This is because you spread the fertilizer around the base of the tree and it releases a small amount of fertilizer throughout the growing season. This means you only have to fertilize your trees one time.

You do need to fertilize your trees early before they start budding or growing leaves. If you do this after the tree starts growing, you may inhibit growth and buds may not bloom. Hire an arborist to help you if you are not sure if you should fertilize your trees.

There are many more things you can do to help your trees, such as adding mulch, making sure they do not dry out, and more. A company such as Artistic Arbor Gardens Inc. can be reached to answer any further questions.
