Moving Trees From One Place To Your Own Yard

Having trees around is great for the environment. If you are interested in a specific tree, especially one that bears fruit, you may have to take several years to grow it from a small sprout to a tree that is several feet tall. If a friend or a family member has the specialized tree that you desire, it can be a better bargain to take the tree from their yard and move it to your own yard. Here is the plan that you will need to make to move a tree from one yard to your own.

Prepare your new yard

Before you have the tree removed and transported, you will need to prepare your own soil for the tree. The soil must have the appropriate amount of nitrogen and the proper pH level in order to support growing trees and shrubs. Dig a hole that is large enough for planting the tree and have an expert arborist let you know how to prepare the current soil for the tree that you will receive. Prepare the hole space several days in advance of the tree arrival.

Take out the tree with the ball root

Smaller trees do not have to be moved with the ball root in place. Large trees that are over several feet are recommended to be removed with the ball root. In order to make sure that the tree roots properly, have a tree removal service remove the tree with the ball root still intact. This will give the tree a better chance at survival once it reaches your yard. A tree being able to take quick root in the soil will also help to stabilize a tree, especially a tree that bears fruits or nuts.

Remove items that could hinder growth

If there are nearby trees or shrubs that could get tangled in the roots of the tree that you are moving, you should remove the item. Some plants or shrubs could run into the roots of the trees and cause issues. Structures, such as sheds with a foundation, can sometimes get in the way of the roots and cause problems with the foundation of the small structure. Be sure that there is space for the roots to spread out and grow without hitting any other roots or hard surfaces underground. Clearing out the space of shrubs and unnecessary trees will help your desired tree flourish.
