Did a previous owner plant a tree in a spot that makes no sense and that could potentially cause harm to your property? Would you like to get rid of the tree but you're not sure how to go about that task? Getting rid of a medium to large size tree can be dangerous if you attempt to do it on your own. It's much easier and safer to hire a company to do most, or all, of the work for you. In order to get ready for their arrival, here are some things that you should do:
Arrange for disposal: Cutting up the tree and reducing it into smaller parts is only part of the issue. Once that's complete, you'll have to figure out what to do with the rest of the tree. A tree removal service may charge additional fees for carting away the resulting pile of wood. However, depending on where you live and the type of tree in question, there may be people who are willing to come and get some or part of the pile at no cost to you. They may burn it as firewood or use it in woodworking projects, but you won't have to worry about it at all.
Obtain a removal permit: For safety and other reasons, some municipalities do not allow you to simply cut down a tree without getting a permit first. The tree removal service that you hire may be able to help you with getting the correct permit but, ultimately, it is your responsibility to find out whether or not a permit is even necessary. Even when a municipality usually wants a permit for removing a tree, this may only apply to trees that are of a certain height or that are located in a certain area.
Block off the area, if possible: Even the best tree removal service can have accidents. Tree limbs can break unexpectedly, due to things like previously undiscovered insect damage, and go crashing down to the ground. Because of this, you want to try to ensure that children and animals aren't going to be able to wander under the tree while the cutting is going on. If you can't block off the area completely, such as for a tree in an unfenced front yard, it's a good idea to warn your neighbors when the tree will be coming down. This will allow them to keep their small children and pets inside on the big day.
